Comics News!

Last week, it was announced that beloved Marvel Comics icon Stan Lee is going to be making a cartoon about Paris Hilton. Apparently forgetting how abysmally his Striperella bombed, the 85-year-old co-creator of icons such as Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, Nightcat, and Ravage 2099 is working with Hilton's former paramour, Paris Latsis, to develop the 30-minute cable series.

It's looking like leaked sex tapes featuring overexposed blondes have replaced Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko. I suppose this means we're going to see Toastee: Vampire Scissor-Hold Queen in the near future.

It looks like Marvel's making some sort of last-ditch effort to shake off any lackluster Spider-Man fans by cancelling Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and Spectacular Spider-Man to make room for Amazing Spider-Man's new thrice-monthly schedule. The new Amazing, now edited by initial 52 helmer Steve Wacker, will feature a rotating team of writers and artists telling chunks of Peter Parker's ongoing saga. In other words, things are pretty much just like they were, but they're now guaranteed to take $2.99 from Spider-fans each week instead of praying they'll take it. Sources say that Quesada's already ordered a gold-lined hot tub for his office to go with the platinum-plated Mary Jane Laundry comiquette.
kitka: this should be interesting - I'm looking forward to seeing if this actually works or if they just screw it up
BeaucoupKevin: It's Marvel.
kitka: ah. right then.

At both Heroes Con and Wizard World Philadelphia, DC announced that Mark Waid was returning to The Flash later this year, relaunching the beleaguered title with a return to the original numbering scheme, a new focus, and a different person in the famous crimson costume. A statement from the three Scans_Daily readers looking forward to Marc Guggenheim's take on Bart Allen reads as follows: "Oh."

Despite lowered expectations due to bad reviews, Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer took the #1 spot in the box office, proving that Brad Pitt and George Clooney don't stand a chance of holding the top spot when the competition consists of Jessica Alba's breasts and the unspoken longing of nerds.

And now, your Easy Joke of the day...

This past weekend, Marvel announced that Strangers in Paradise creator Terry Moore would be replacing Sean McKeever on Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane. McKeever's last issue will be #20, and the title will be renamed Mary Jane Loves Gwen Stacy starting with #21.
