Kevin Reviews His Weekly Singles #06
Black Summer #6
Juan Jose Ryp must have at some point decided that Geoff Darrow just wasn't trying hard enough anymore. Ellis sets up what looks to be a very exciting ending for this series that quietly became one of those books I anticipated.
Blue Beetle #26
Cute. One customer at the shop informed me that the Spanish was poorly written, and considering that my only recent experience with the language involved ordering carnitas or tacos al pastor at Anna's, I'm just going to trust her until Maxo weighs in.
DC Universe 0
Well, that certainly was a marketing directive sort of comic book written by two professionals and illustrated by a wide array of artists.

After ten issues of Megan being thoroughly unlikeable, I'm surprised I empathized with her in this issue as much as I did. There's probably someone much smarter than me that's writing up something comparing the now-30-year-old series lead and the young artist that was the protagonist of the issue, so I'll let them do that. Ryan Kelly's art continues to get better and better and while I may have issues with how Wood uses pages - silent spreads irk me something fierce - the emotional core for this issue, and the series as a whole, has been remarkably sturdy.
I also picked up the rather fantastic-looking Kirby Five-Oh retrospective (which is absolutely loaded with pencil art, concept drawings, sketch, and text pieces from others about The King) alongside the hardcover volume of Johnny Ryan's The Klassik Komix Klub and Liz Prince's Delayed Replays, but I think I'm going to review one or two of those for CBR since I've not turned in anything for a few weeks.
