A YEAR OF GIVEAWAYS: Win a Harley Quinn trade collection.

21 Comments | Posted: March 15th, 2010 | Filed under: Contests

As usual, let’s get the blah blah blah involving last week’s contest out of the way and give a big round of applause for Troy Wilson. Troy, the cheeky fuck, just mentioned a guest appearance and not an actual Daredevil story, but what the hell, let’s let him have it because The Death Of Jean DeWolffe does have a pretty great moment featuring by ol’ hornhead Congratulations, Troy!

This week, we’ve got a hardcover collection of the first eight or so issues of Harley Quinn, a comic I enjoyed more than I should have but really don’t need to keep around the house. Preludes and Knock Knock Jokes features the Joker’s better (?!?) half on her own, getting a crew together, and committing crimes. The art by the Dodsons really is the highlight of the thing, but Karl Kesel’s scripting helped the title stood out in an era of not-very-good Bat-family stories.

How do you win a copy of it? Leave a comment with, I don’t know, your favorite Harley Quinn moment in comics or on the Batman Animated Series. Does that sound good? Yeah, let’s go with that. This has to be something that has happened, not your masturbatory fantasies involving Veronica Mars or whatever her name is in clown makeup.

Just leave said comment before 12:01 AM on Saturday, March 20, 2010 to qualify and the winner will be chosen using Random.org’s random number generator. Previous entrants do, in fact qualify, because I’m such a nice fellow like that. Comments that don’t qualify (such as the person from last week who just said “I like Daredevil” without answering the question) will be deleted.

Terms And Conditions:
Please note that because of shipping costs, this contest is for residents of the United States of America and Canada. You must leave your email address with your comment to qualify, as I’m not going to spend any time hunting down someone who didn’t want to be contacted about their amazing prize. One comment per person and yes, I will know if you cheat and will probably mock you in public.

I think my favorite Harley Quinn moment will always be the time she and Poison Ivy went on a shopping spree with Bruce’s money while he stood there, hypnotized and unable to stop them, just because of the maniacal glee with which they indulged themselves.

    The episode Mad Love.

Without a doubt one of the best Harley-centric stories ever.

Where she has Batman in an inescapable death trap only to have it all go to crap because the Joker’s own sense of narcissism and pride wouldn’t have anyone but him end Batman.

…also pretty much anytime she was feeding the Hyenas on the animated series was pretty damned adorable

I also really enjoyed this series, I think I gave it up a few months before it was cancelled. Once the original team left the book just got away from what was so much fun about it.
I really liked the way Harley cared about her Quinnetts…in her own careless way. They were more a family than a loose collection of hired thugs in matching bowling shirts.

My favorite moment is the episode of the Animated Series where Jaker lets Harley down yet again and Poison Ivy takes her under her wing to teach her to be independant. Obviously, it doesn’t work out, but I remember it being one of the funniest episodes of hte series.

  5. 5 Phil Looney said at 12:33 pm on March 15th, 2010:

I really liked the Harley Quinn origin story – can’t remember if that was in the comics or the show – but I liked because it really showed the sort of control Joker has on people. Here was this intelligent woman who completely becomes enraptured with the Joker to the point that she developers her own psychosis.

  6. 6 S. Frank Kim said at 12:45 pm on March 15th, 2010:

My favorite Harley Quinn moment is her appearance in Detective Comics from a couple of years back, when Paul Dini was writing it.

  7. 7 Isaac said at 2:06 pm on March 15th, 2010:

I seem to remember a Harley vs. Ivy shower fight, with strategically placed soapsuds and sound effects, in a comic drawn by Bruce Timm or in a Bruce Timm style.

    Cheeky stuff.

My favorite moment is when Harley has to be rescued from the Joker, and she is rescued by Ivy and Selina. It’s a very cool moment.

  9. 9 SKleefeld said at 2:59 pm on March 15th, 2010:

Favorite moment is probably her initial debut in Batman TAS.

  10. 10 Ken said at 3:31 pm on March 15th, 2010:

I like the episode where she gets released from Arkham and her attempts to be normal just spiral out of control until she has inadvertently kidnapped a general’s daughter and he is rolling around in a tank in the middle of Gotham.

I think that’s the one where she flashes her sane certificate at somebody and it’s literally just a giant piece of paper with the word SANE on it.

  11. 11 Thomas D said at 4:22 pm on March 15th, 2010:

The whole episode where she teams up with Poison Ivy was too full of goodness for me to squeeze out one single moment.

  12. 12 Bill D. said at 4:36 pm on March 15th, 2010:

Ken’s favorite is mine, too, but in the interest of not being Repetitious Jones over here, I also really enjoyed her bit at the end of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker as Nana Harley, the DeeDees’ grandmother who has clearly had enough of this crime clown shit.

  13. 13 The Eyeball Kid said at 6:28 pm on March 15th, 2010:

I like when she teamed up with Batman in the cartoon. The big musical number she did to distract the goons was cute and zany but a little bit twisted, just like her.

  14. 14 John Pontoon said at 6:52 pm on March 15th, 2010:

    From Mad Love.
I can’t decide between the official or the censored panel where our girl is in a negligee on Joker’s desk and says these immortal lines:
    “aw, c’mon puddin’…
…don’t ya wanna rev up your Harley?
    VROOOOM
    VROOOOM.”

That line just goes full throttle, y’know?

  15. 15 Ron Graham said at 10:33 pm on March 15th, 2010:

There’s a great Harley moment in her first appearance in Batman: The Animated Series (“Joker’s Favor” which I just watched with my daughter YESTERDAY). After Batman has subdued her and handcuffed her to the wall, so he can go after the Joker, Harley resignedly says, “Beauty School’s starting to look pretty good.”

You get the sense that Paul Dini hadn’t worked out her backstory — later fleshed out in “Mad Love” — at this point. But the line works either way.

  16. 16 hardtravelinghero said at 10:51 pm on March 15th, 2010:

Oddly I thought of this yesterday, because my girlfriend only thinks I’m funny when she’s tired.

In “Mad Love” when Harley has to explain to Joker about Batman being hung upside down in the piranha tank so the piranha are smiling at Batman and Joker gets pissed that if the joke has to be explained, it’s not funny.

    Just like real life.

  17. 17 KDBryan said at 4:01 am on March 16th, 2010:

The B:TAS episode Harlequinade is just about the best thing ever and I will arm wrestle anyone who says different.

I’m particularly fond of the musical number, “I wanna listen to the radio!” and “Sneak, sneak, sneak!”.

  18. 18 John McKeon said at 11:31 am on March 16th, 2010:

“Joker’s Millions” is my favorite episode of Batman:TAS. The whole thing is great. Harley getting caught because the Joker wouldn’t spring for a second ejection seat, Joker looking for a replacement Harley, and Harley’s revenge at the end of the episode, funny stuff all the way through.

For some reason the Joker saying “Let the good times roll!” cracks me up every time.

  19. 19 William Bibbiani said at 2:41 am on March 17th, 2010:

In the Season 4 episode “Over the Edge,” in which Batman’s identity is uncovered publicly, Harley, The Riddler and The Mad Hatter appear on television to get their 15 minutes of fame out of the incident, and announce that they are suing multi-billionaire Bruce Wayne for psychological distress. It’s a small moment, but when Harley blows her nose the bells on her mask shoot backwards like a Merry Melodies cartoon. It’s adorable.

  20. 20 John said at 3:19 pm on March 17th, 2010:

My favorite is when Harley captures and almost kills Batman only to have the Joker ruin it. I someone here said the Episode is titled Mad Love.

  21. 21 Jidasfire said at 2:34 pm on March 19th, 2010:

My favorite Harley moment is from the animated series when the Joker is doing his commercial for the Joker Fish. Harley singing the jingle and generally overacting, followed by her disgust at actually having to eat one. Classic and hilarious.
