Ask me a question!

Why do you LOVE Asian people so much?
I should get my iPad tomorrow (SHOULD’VE gotten it today but I was too sleepy). What apps (besides an alarm clock) do I NEED to get?
What is your eye glass prescription? I want to see things they way you do.
Why do you LOVE Asian people so much?
Because someone has to make up for the hate you spew constantly. Also, they have such nice hair!

If only I’d a robust comments section in which I…oh, wait! Short version: Netflix, ComicZeal, GoodReader and Words With Friends.
What are your favorite top 3 ongoing titles from Marvel & DC right now?
What is your favorite comic book so far this year?
What serialized comic books do you buy every month?
So how high do you think prices can go on periodical-format comic books before consumers as a whole finally say “forget it” and start investing in more reasonably-priced entertainments, like heroin or Fabergé eggs?
Can you recommend a good pair of in-ear headphones? You seem like the kind of person who will have tried several sets in search of a pair that does not suck.
Why have the major religions not caught on to the effectiveness of comic missals, like the smaller cultier ones?
If you had to leave the planet tomorrow, who would you leave as the heir to the throne of Kevin Church?
What are your favorite top 3 ongoing titles from Marvel & DC right now?
Batman and Robin, Atlas, and Sweet Tooth.
What is your favorite comic book so far this year?
The final volume of Pluto.
What serialized comic books do you buy every month?
Basically the three I listed above as my favorites. I’m quite taken with iZombie and there’s a lot of one-offs and minis I’m checking out (last week, it was Heralds #1,) but I’m generally going for the trade paperback now more than over.
So how high do you think prices can go on periodical-format comic books before consumers as a whole finally say “forget it” and start investing in more reasonably-priced entertainments, like heroin or Fabergé eggs?
We are getting mighty close, I think. With both major superhero companies asking $4 for 22-page pamphlets, I think we’re seeing attrition at mid-level titles that were worth around $30 for a dozen of them, but not $50. It’s about the aggregate value more than the individual, I think, and people notice it more when there’s a big stack that’s costing them 25% more versus just one or two titles.
(For the record, if I could buy this week’s Marvel and DC singles for $2 on the iPad and then pick up the trade later, both companies would get more money out of me than they are now.)
Can you recommend a good pair of in-ear headphones? You seem like the kind of person who will have tried several sets in search of a pair that does not suck.
I love the UltimateEars line, but you would balk at the price, I am sure. Particularly at the ones that are in my bag. Prepare for sticker shock. Sennheiser used to be a brand I loved, but they’ve completely lost my confidence after aiming at the iPod market a bit too firmly.
Why have the major religions not caught on to the effectiveness of comic missals, like the smaller cultier ones?
I think it’s the perception that comics are a genre for kids instead of being a medium that can communicate more effectively than any other shy of, say, television. Also, you have to find someone to draw them.
If you had to leave the planet tomorrow, who would you leave as the heir to the throne of Kevin Church?
Chris Sims has to legally change his name to Chris Church to inherit my empire.
Question 1- Spider-Man: Hero or Menace?
Question 1- Spider-Man: Hero or Menace?
Menace that occasionally heroes by accident.
Question 2- You enjoy photography so why don’t you try to get some photos of Spider-Man for the Daily Bugle?
Have any of the clients you occasionally rag on in your twitter feed ever noticed?
Have any of the clients you occasionally rag on in your twitter feed ever noticed?
I am pretty darn discreet, especially for someone in “internet marketing.” They tend to not be clients after I’ve hit the point where I mention them in public, or I’ve gone and deleted it after the smug satisfaction of having it there for fifteen minutes or so.
(However, I should mention that I was spectacularly disappointed in a recent recruiter’s response to a long, thought-out email from me explaining why I couldn’t take a position at a firm across town and nearly tweeted about it but then realized that would be an act of egotism that even I would balk at.)
Will there be any talking animal characters in your upcoming webcomic, FIGHT?
Will there be any talking animal characters in your upcoming webcomic, FIGHT?
No, Tracie Mauk. Mostly because I’ve heard horror stories from creators who have put out comics with talking animals having to deal with…those kinds of people.
Do you get a lot of hits on your Disco Potential site?
How much longer are we going to be bombarded by pointless movie remakes?
Do you think Chris Evans has the acting chops to portray Captain America considering how high they have set the bar with regard to the rest of the cast so far?
If you could revamp any comic character, who would it be and how would you change them?
Are you excited for the return of Futurama?
Who is the Luke Cage in your Marvel character library, if you were to ever be given the keys to the Marvelverse – Bendisstyle?
Where in the Boston area are you looking forward to watching some World Cup games?
Last one for me:
Where did he get those wonderful toys?
Do you get a lot of hits on your Disco Potential site?
Not as many as I’d like. But it’s music that I like and a place to put it more than it is some grand personal statement.
How much longer are we going to be bombarded by pointless movie remakes?
As long as they are still a near-guarantee a profit with minimal marketing.
Do you think Chris Evans has the acting chops to portray Captain America considering how high they have set the bar with regard to the rest of the cast so far?
Evans is really spectacular in Sunshine and I think he can do it. Just because the majority of his roles have been lighter in tone doesn’t mean he won’t surprise us, much like Alec Baldwin is a spectacular comedian because of his dramatic chops.
If you could revamp any comic character, who would it be and how would you change them?
Ming and I talk about writing comics about Jubilee and Storm at the mall way too much. Joking aside, I have an idea for Dazzler that’s probably a bit more feasible in a post-Gaga landscape, about her going underground and striving for credibility and having a creative rebirth as she becomes an icon for the mutant minority and deals with dudes that have claws for eyes or something.
Are you excited for the return of Futurama?
I do not care for Futurama. It is cute, well written, and very well-made but I do not think it is very funny.
Who is the Luke Cage in your Marvel character library, if you were to ever be given the keys to the Marvelverse – Bendisstyle?
That current Luke Cage mini about him going to Philly and cleaning up a mess left behind by his legacy is really close to what I’d want to do with the character, but I think Parker and crew have done a spectacular job using him in a new way.
Where in the Boston area are you looking forward to watching some World Cup games?
The Burren, where there is no TV. That’s a good fifty to sixty percent of the reason I enjoy drinking there.
Where did he get those wonderful toys?
Amazon.
Best DSLR camera for a beginner?
Best DSLR camera for a beginner?
I’ve used my Canon Digital Rebel Xt for yons without a problem. Not that I’ve been taking many pictures lately, but you can pick one up for fairly cheap because of the rapid advancement of DSLR technology. That and the “nifty 50″ lens should set you back less than $500 in today’s marketplace and give you the chance to take good pictures without a huge investment.
(That said, I am thinking more and more about picking up a Leica point-and-shoot before SDCC because goddamn, they take nice shots.)
Top Kurosawa for you at the moment. Or – whats big for you in movies right now thats not the regular comic movie crap?
What song makes you happiest? What comic? What movie? (I am all about your happiness!)
Top Kurosawa for you at the moment. Or – whats big for you in movies right now thats not the regular comic movie crap?
I was literally talking about Stray Dog today and how I need to rewatch it. That’s just such a good potboiler and the climax left me feeling dazed.
You know, this summer holds very little that interests me when it comes to movies. I keep thinking I’m interested in something that’s not the Scott Pilgrim adaptation, but it disappears pretty rapidly. I’ve been trying to work through the Criterion releases on Netflix and in my archives that I’ve yet to watch, for some reason.
What song makes you happiest? What comic? What movie?
“Pandemonium” by Pet Shop Boys; Superman Vs Muhammad Ali is everything I love about Superman and it has The Champ; the recent Star Trek relaunch is basically the movie I waited 30 years for, so everyone else could see what I saw in the property.
Would you fight Kieron Gillen over the right to do that Dazzler relaunch, and if so what would be your finishing move?
Would you fight Kieron Gillen over the right to do that Dazzler relaunch, and if so what would be your finishing move?
Frankly, I’d fight Gillen over the last slice of toast at breakfast. And I shan’t reveal any secrets of my slap-fu here.
When you gave away your comics that one time – How did you come to a decision to do it? Was it difficult to part with? What made it easier for you to do?
If you had impeccable artisitic skill, would you write, pencil, ink and colour all your comics, grabbing full creative control and holding it tight, or compromise that control to work with artists and embrace variety?
When you gave away your comics that one time – How did you come to a decision to do it? Was it difficult to part with? What made it easier for you to do?
Needed the space; wasn’t, once I committed and realized I could buy any of them again; alcohol. (Seriously, though, it felt really good once it started going and I saw how happy people were to pick up runs of things or piece together chunks for their collection.)
If you had impeccable artisitic skill, would you write, pencil, ink and colour all your comics, grabbing full creative control and holding it tight, or compromise that control to work with artists and embrace variety?
Probably not, because I got more ideas than I got hours to work on art and I want each thing to have its own tone and feel. Getting specific artists to work on them is a big part of why I keep getting inspired.
Question 2- You enjoy photography so why don’t you try to get some photos of Spider-Man for the Daily Bugle?
That skinflint doesn’t play worth a damn.
What is your eye glass prescription? I want to see things they way you do.
You know, I don’t have mine handy. I’m just slightly farsighted. I can take my glasses off in a movie theater or while watching TV and I’m fine, but need them for finer things like reading or facestabbing.
(BTW, some perfectly reasonable questions were tossed into the spam bin so they just showed up a bit later. Sorry!)
