Hot Topic, your one-stop shop for clothing and accessories you’ll be taking to Goodwill in three to six months, is selling a shirt featuring a design stolen from cartoonist Jess Fink’s Lil’ Soap character. When contacted by Fink, a representative for the design firm responsible for the shirt stated:
“It is my policy to encourage freelancers to use the free Getty photo images as reference points & we also use sketches from the Japanese free clip art books, which have inanimate objects with cute faces & legs etc. which are also very similar to the soap. Also, a couple million mall goths buying our shit means we can afford insanely evil lawyers, so back the fuck off.”
Followers of this sort of thing may remember a similar incident involving Todd Goldman’s appropriation of other artists’ work and subsequent inability to get himself arrested in the art world ever again.
The Foo Fighters are suing Marvel Entertainment for the unauthorized use of two songs in a trailer for the forthcoming Wolverine and the X-Men animated series. The songs “Best of You” and “Free Me” served as the soundtrack for a 3-minute-and-change-clip featuring scenes from the new series. In related news, Marvel Editor in Chief Joe Quesada discovered this morning that his Limewire account has been shut down by the RIAA and his hard drives seized.
