I hate to say it Kevin, but today’s choice is quite a miss. Very uncharacteristic of you.

Clearly Nightingale is skilled, but I find his landscapes to be a little stale and even cliche. He does however have a gentle hand and is looking for subtlety, which he achieves, however I don’t think that approach works for these compositions.

That said, he has picked some interesting locations but I can think of numerous other photographers whose work is superior in this genre.

Perhaps the true quality of his work can be seen in a gallery when the print is viewed in person?

    Then don’t say it, then?

I’m sorry we don’t agree on the photos, but when I first spotted Nightingales’ work on the Creative Review site , his approach to color (saturated greens and reds with restrained blues and yellows) immediately impressed me, as did his deep focus, large format compositions. I’m certain you can name other landscape photographers you like more, I chose Nightingale on this blog entry because I liked his work.

Also: I was pleased to discover that you can look at his work in more detail on the Exhibit X site.

Great find, Kevin. I saw the link on CR the other day, but didn’t know about the Exhibit X site.
