Comments are closed. Insult or make presumptions about me all you want, but there's been three comments in a row shitting on Turner himself from anonymous people. Dude signed from a wheelchair for his fans and gave when he probably shouldn't have. I may not have enjoyed his work, but I respected his work ethic.

Kevin, I know you well enough to know that you meant no snarkery, but all I could think of when I saw that cover was the strip of where Lydia and Jerry regard the poster with consternation.

I've been trying to think of something appropriate to say, but everything is sounding false. I didn't know anything about the man other than what he did for a living, but my heart goes out to his family.

I have to admit, my first reaction was exactly the same as Charles Cooper's. I think the blog brouhaha about that particular cover is still fresh in people's minds.

The explanatory note is reassuring. (Of course, having said that, I do understand of course that this is your blog, you do as you please, and explanations or reassurances are not required. Still -- thanks.)

Not the biggest fan of Turner either, but man, I saw this post here and was like "damn, what? really?" just being so suprised that he died. Took a second for it to even sink in.
too young and too unfortunate. RIP Mr Turner.

I honestly wasn't trying to make a point, it really was just an observation. I didn't notice the article link.

In defense of Kevin (and this is my own personal opinion), if you're not a fan of Turner's work, you're going to think that every cover he could have posted was intended as snark. Personally i've never been a fan and I know I could nitpick a drawing of his for quite some time, but that's in the eye of the beholder.

None of this though should come in the way of honoring the man's death. Fan or not, RIP Michael Turner.

This is also the first one where I've linked to an article about the passing. Please, if you're going to make a point, make it.

Really just an observation but this is the only one of those examples that you did not put RIP in front of on the title.

I posted a famous Michael Turner cover and noted his death. I did something very similar for Arthur C. Clarke, Marshall Rogers, James Brown, Alex Toth, and Arnold Drake, among others. While I may not have biggest fan of Turner's artwork, his generosity with fans was well-known and his enduring popularity can not be denied. Dying at 37 is something I'd not wish on my worst enemy.
