WEDNESDAY COMICS Penny Pinchers: Prepare For An Assault From The Maths

An email from a friend stated the following:

A typical $2.99 comic book is 32.6 cents/ square foot (22-6×10 inch pages)

Wednesday Comics is 13.6 cents / square foot (15-14×20 pages)

The standard $2.99 comic book costs 2.38 times more per square foot than Wednesday Comics.

I’m just going to assume this is all true because I can barely figure out a tip and just end up throwing $10 at whoever is willing to bring me my damn gazpacho.

Well, there’s their cover blurb: “Your Best Comic Value Per Square Foot!”

How about this math? In sixteen pages of Wednesday Comics, there is 1 (one) ad. It’s a half-pager, on the sixteenth page (or back cover).

In sixteen pages of my hometown paper, specifically the national, local, and editorial sections, there are 23 ads (were I to switch out national for the sports section, that total becomes 48). Among these ads are 2 whole-pagers, 1 half-pager, and 5 pages that are two-thirds ads. Only two pages have nothing but news on them.

I’ll gladly pay the premium for the low-ad content Wednesday Comics provides (to say nothing of the premium the art, storytelling, and size of this comic provides!). Although, Church’s post shows that I’m actually not paying too high a price after all.
