About half of the people made the mistake of thinking they were supposed to be rooting for Rogen's character, that it was a standard-issue comedy and what he does at the end is a standard-issue comedy protagonist victory. They were kinda scary. The other half was pretty visibly disgusted and felt like they had seen a very different movie than they were expecting (and it was completely promoted as a good-natured but crude Apatow-style comedy). Like you, I thought it was a really good, darkly funny character study of a disturbed guy, but I don't think that was the general consensus.
